how to sign up

Filling out the form above or calling Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels at 215-233-5555 is all you need to do to start your application.

Referrals for our service are made by clients themselves, their family members, hospital discharge planners, home health and other agencies, doctor’s offices, neighbors or clergy. Before a referral is made for our services, the potential client must agree to the referral and be interested in receiving our services.

Cost

We deliver 2 meals at $9.50 a day or one meal at $4.75 a day.

Daily deliveries consist of:

  • Lunch – sandwich, fruit.

  • Dinner – meat or other protein, vegetable, and starch in microwaveable container.

  • Clients who receive meals three or more days a week receive a weekly bag of salad.

  • All deliveries include a beverage (milk or juice), soup, and a homemade dessert.

Clients are asked to pay a $90 fully refundable deposit at the start of service.  This deposit will be applied to your final invoice.  If there is no balance at the time you suspend service, the full amount will be refunded to you.

Clients receive invoices during the first week of each month covering payment for all meals received during the prior month.  They may give payment directly to volunteers at a future delivery or may mail payment in self-addressed envelope accompanying the invoice.  Cash, checks or money orders are acceptable methods of payment.  We do not accept credit card payments.

Eligibility

Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals, Monday through Friday, for all seniors (62 or older) and homebound neighbors who cannot prepare nutritious meals for themselves and do not live with someone who can provide balanced meals on a regular basis. This includes individuals with disabilities who need our meals to support their health and independence on a long-term basis, as well as adults with temporary needs (such as recuperation from surgery or a hospital stay).

FAQs

What services do you offer?

1

Our dedicated corps of volunteers is prepared to deliver 2 meals each weekday (Monday - Friday) between 10:00am - 12:00pm.  You may choose to get meals delivered each weekday or on specific days. We do not currently deliver on weekends.

We ask that you sign up for a minimum of a two-week period.  Emergency, shorter-term deliveries will be accommodated when possible.

You are always able to suspend delivery for any period of time you wish and for any reason.  If you provide us with a 24-hour notice, you will not be charged for that day’s meals.   Simply call our office (215-233-5555) to notify us as to the dates you do not want/need delivery.

What happens on Holidays
or if there is bad weather?

2

We deliver every weekday except five federal holidays:  New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Christmas Day.

We make every attempt to plan ahead for inclement weather, balancing the needs of our clients and the safety of our volunteers. Clients are informed of any cancelled deliveries. Thanks to support from community groups like the Boy Scouts, we provide clients with non-perishable food items to be used in the event that deliveries are cancelled.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call 215-233-5555 or email us at info@chestnuthillmow.org

What happens if I’m not home?

3

If you will not be home at the time of delivery, you may place a small, sealed cooler with an ice pack outside your door and our volunteers will leave your meal in that container.  We ask that you put your name on the cooler if you live in an apartment.  If it’s possible to notify us beforehand, we will be able to advise your volunteer driver that you will not be home.

Clients who cannot afford our services may receive their meals at no cost, as capacity allows.

The number of meals they receive depends on their monthly income. We use the Federal Poverty Guidelines to determine eligibility.
